Hello, I am Frankie, a mum of three boys, a designer and a fully trained secondary school Design Technology teacher. I specialise in Product Design and Woodwork. I am also a freelance design teacher at The Design Museum. I love to share design ideas, crafty tutorials and everyday family fun on my platform crafterscoolclub.
My kids get involved in a lot of the tasks I am doing, however, don’t be fooled into thinking that they sit quietly for an hour and make with me. Sometimes they like to watch, sometimes they like to help out, sometimes they do their own thing. But my hope is that if we always do things together and I engage them hopefully they will ‘catch’ the learning.
I am also a strong advocate that making something can help relieve a busy mind and when you truly focus on making something with your hands, big or small, your brain will get lost in the calm of the task.
As a teacher I am forever encouraging kids to search for the designer inside themselves and to have a go at improving the world they live in through enquiry and exploration. I really hope to build a community of designers and creative thinkers though my workshops and now my new workshops in a box.
The products and ideas that are offered are merely an inspiration board for you to grow your own ideas from and to think, “hey, actually, I know what will be better”. As beauty is in the eye of the beholder and a great functional product is actually something that fits into your way of life.
